Rosemary McMahan – Lay Pastor
Since July of 2002, Rosemary McMahan has ministered with the people of Big Cove Presbyterian Church. She enjoys leading the people in worship and learning about ministry and mission with them. Rosemary serves Big Cove as a Commissioned Lay Pastor, trained and approved by the Committee on Ministry of the North Alabama Presbytery. She has a Master’s Degree in English from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Rosemary is a certified lay chaplain and a certified spiritual director who enjoys walking with others on their spiritual journeys.
Rosemary and her husband Dennis have two adult married children. Rosemary likes to read, garden, jog, write poetry, and go to the beach and the lake (or Italy!) with her husband.
Houston Hodges – Parish Associate
The Rev. Houston Hodges is a “mostly retired” Presbyterian minister who enjoys working at Big Cove church as a volunteer. He helps lead worship, teaches, and tries to be helpful.
Houston is originally from Texas, but has served in California and Manitoba as well as here in Huntsville. Ordained in 1954, he was in campus ministry during the tumultuous sixties. Prior to retirement in 1995 he was the Executive Presbyter of North Alabama Presbytery. He and Pat have a blended family of six children, coast to coast, and seven grandchildren. He loves the Presbyterian Church, teaching, writing, daily walks, an occasional nap, and his Macintosh.
Carla Feehan – Music Director
Carla Feehan joined our staff in December of 2012. She grew up in Guntersville, and her father was an engineer who worked in Huntsville with Werner Von Braun. As a child she used to pass Big Cove Church frequently while travelling with her family to Huntsville; she loved the scenic setting of our church and often wondered what it was like. Carla graduated from Samford University with a music degree, specializing in piano, and she has also done masters level work in children’s guidance counseling. She retired as an elementary school music teacher, having taught in both Gadsden and Cullman city schools. Carla has many years’ additional experience in multiple churches throughout north and central Alabama as a music director at every level, as a pianist, and as the director of children, youth, and senior adult ministries and programs. She is also a member of the Huntsville Community Chorus. Carla’s husband, Mike, is an Auburn graduate, a retired Army Colonel, and a senior officer for a state law enforcement agency. Carla recently returned home to north Alabama when Mike received a job transfer here from Montgomery. They both love children, but Carla’s real “baby” is her little white poodle, named (appropriately) Chopin; she loves taking him for rides in her little SUV. She and Mike are “Andy Griffith Show” fans, and Mike has also served in a number of activities and leadership positions at their previous churches together.
Betty King – Treasurer
Betty King assumed the Treasurer position of Big Cove Presbyterian Church (USA) in 2011. This is her second time to serve as Treasurer (previously serving from 2003 through 2006). Betty has been a member of Big Cove Presbyterian Church since 1997. She became an Elder in 2003. Betty is married with two children. Retired from the federal government, she is a Certified Public Accountant, a consultant in government contract accounting, and teaches part-time at UAHuntsville.
She is an animal lover. Betty enjoys the daily walks with her active German Shepherd dog, playing with her two Boston Terrier dogs, and just sitting with her lazy cat when time permits.
Diane Lee – Bookkeeper
Diane Lee had served as the church bookkeeper for the past four years. Diane is retired from ADTRAN where she worked in the accounting department for 15 years. Previously, she served as Comptroller of the Huntsville Museum of Art. Diane and her husband Tennent are members of Big Cove and have four children and three teenage grandchildren. They both have enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Greece and Italy since their retirement.
Mary Hooper – Aministrative Assistant
Mary joined the Big Cove staff in 2012. For the last 32 years, Mary has taught English at the high school or college level, most recently at Randolph School. But she also taught freshman composition and literature in the department of English at UAH for 4 years when she and her husband (Charles Boley) first moved to Huntsville 28 years ago. She grew up in Tennessee, attended college in North Carolina, and has a Master’s Degree in English literature from Vanderbilt University. She has been a member of Faith Presbyterian Church for as long as she has lived in Huntsville. She and Charles have been married for thirty years, and they have an adult daughter, Elizabeth, who lives and works in Huntsville. Mary enjoys reading; walking; working crossword, Sudoku, and other puzzles; going to Carolina beaches; and watching birds and looking at the stars with Charles.
